This a weapon belonging to one of the more troubled and broken characters of the universe. Before his terrible transformation to Kylo Ren, Ben trained diligently as a Jedi with his uncle Luke Skywalker. Some of the cracks in his character can be seen in the construction of this hilt well before his fall to the darkside.
