The TIE Droid, also known as the TIE/D automated starfighter, is a type of unmanned combat vehicle used by the Galactic Empire in the Star Wars universe. Unlike traditional TIE fighters, the TIE Droid is entirely automated, eliminating the need for a human pilot. It was designed to be fast, agile, and expendable, allowing the Empire to deploy large swarms of these droids in battle without risking personnel. The TIE Droid features a streamlined, spherical cockpit similar to other TIE models but lacks life support systems and pilot controls. Despite its cost-effectiveness and combat effectiveness, the TIE Droid's reliance on automation was a drawback, as it lacked the adaptability and tactical thinking of human pilots.
