The Republic Frigate was a Consular-class cruiser not initially designed for battle. Its heavy armor, fast transport, and reliable track record made it an ideal candidate for military modification in order to combat the growing separatist forces. It ultimately served its role well during the Clone Wars with many of its major design elements being passed on to the CR90.
